The truth is that there is a MASSIVE gap between the classroom and the clinic. It's something that almost all practitioners experience. But it's not often spoken about.

For many practitioners, the dream of helping others is overshadowed by the harsh realities of isolation, overwhelm, low self-esteem, and financial struggles.

And I am no exception...

In my early 20's I got a spiritual calling to help others. At the time, I had no clue what the vehicle was going to be or how I was going to do it.

A good friend of mine was studying nutrition at the time. After learning a bit from him, I got intrigued. Soon after that, I enrolled in school (yes, this is an actual picture of me in school...)

Within the first 6 months of school, I realized that this was the way. I started helping people right away and never looked back.....sort of....

The truth is that for the first 3 years of practice I was flat broke. While I was getting decent results with the clients that I was working with, I was spending way too much time doing research, drafting up protocols, and managing my practice.

At the end of the day, I could only manage to see a handful of clients at a time, there was no way I was scaling up my practice, and, when I crunched the numbers....

..I was working for less than minimum wage.

My income was so low that my wife had to support us, which added a strain on our relationship in unexpected ways.

I even got fired from the first clinic I worked at because I wasn't bringing in enough clients or money.

I was trying to "figure it all out" but I didn't have the support, tools or systems to make it work.

And not once, but twice, I actually ended up quitting my "full-time practice" because I needed a job to make ends meet.

Honestly, I felt like a complete and utter failure.

But I couldn't give up on the dream.

I couldn't ignore the spiritual calling.

I simply had to figure out a way to make this all work.

I started rethinking everything and getting serious about my practice. I looked at how I managed my time, how I handled client cases, and how I approached running my practice.

Slowly but surely, I began creating templates and building systems and workflows that made sense. Eventually, I transitioned out of my job and into a full-time practice that supported my family and lifestyle.

Today, 21 years on, life and practice look very different from the old days.

Introduce Myself...

My name is Brett Hawes. I am a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner and Holistic Nutritionist with over 20 years of clinical experience. Over the years, I have helped close to 10,000 clients overcome health challenges, specializing in gut health, hormone imbalances and autoimmune disease. My approach blends ancient healing traditions with evidence-based, functional medicine, allowing me to resolve root-cause health issues from a holistic perspective.

In addition to my clinical work, I've spent the last 18 years as a professional educator and mentor. I've taught thousands of student practitioners and worked as a student clinic advisor at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition (IHN).

I have also mentored and coached close to 1000 practitioners in both the clinical skills and the business of building successful practices.

If you’ve purchased any of the masterclasses or training programs before joining ACE, you’ll retain lifetime access to those purchases—even if you decide to cancel your ACE membership.
